I’m in special Ed for most of my schooling. I just always felt sad that I was behind most of the kids and couldn’t keep up. Nobody would ever talk to me. Special Ed classes really aren’t that bad considering you don’t need to think for yourself and the teachers give you the answer.

I swear to God special education destroyed my social skills destroyed my life I was there from 2000 all the way until 2014 they pretty much don't teach you anything and good luck trying to find friends after high school I honestly blame special education they don't teach you how to socialize with people they really really don't like you over there and there are some teachers are racist the damage has been done alreadynow I have social anxiety everywhere I go thanks a lot the special ed teach you nothing and to be honest I'm starting to get depressed because I don't have any friends

I don’t think it’s fair that only the special ed kids get to learn how to thrive and be independent. Their Neurotypical peers need classes and learning to be independent too. Most of them don’t learn skills, like cooking and being on a budget until they graduate high school or not at all. Where I come from, fls stands for functioning life skills. I was there from kindergarten to fifth grade with being on a one on one aid program starting in fourth grade. I needed the additional help during my first 5 years. But since the fourth grade, I loved the inclusion setting a lot more. I get to be included and being in regular classes. From what I saw in high school, when you’re in special ed, it feels like you don’t have a say about if whether or not, you would like to participate in after school activities. And you also don’t have a say about where you want to sit or who you wanna sit with during lunch, assemblies, and the first act of a school play or musical (and if whether or not, you would like to stay for the second or third act). I feel that on the high functioning aspect of their disabilities, inclusion is vital. With being in special ed, it feels like you’re being monitored by your teachers all the time.

I was in special ed classes from 6th grade to me dropping out 11th grade. It was tough because i was laughed at and joked. I was labeled " slow " or " dumb " simply because i learn different and just needed a few more examples. It's not a learning disability nor special education, its a better understanding of the lessons being taught. Think about this example: Every student including YOU reading this has had some type of struggle of a subject like Math or Spanish, is that a learning disability? If you agree then anyone that struggled with a subject during school has or had a learning disability. It's amazing that the same people that laughed and joked me aren't as intelligent or successful as me. Even the girls i asked out laughed in my face are now in my face asking me to hang out😂. It hurt that i was treated like that but the people that treated me that way need me and im teaching them things... nobody is perfect and i want any Gifted students reading this to know that don't worry about what people say because those people will continue to fail and struggle in something you're good at ❤.

I was put in special ed, and its fucked with my life in so many ways. I was forced into a classroom because a lable was shoved on me me "autistic." I was an outcast and was bullied like the rest of the special ed students. It didnt help my family thought so little of me because of my autism and oh boy they sure werent secretive about it. It stunt my social skills because we were isolated from everyone all of middle and highschool. I also learnt nothing during special ed, i never got to learn fractions in math and continued to read childrens books in 9th grade. I barely passed school, i am the only special ed student who got a diploma at my school because i had to try really hard at school, unlike the others who weren't able to. I want to be a psychiatrist. Did my school help me out with college like other students? Short answer no, they never taught me how it worked. I hated myself so much because of all these things. Schools should not be treating children like this. They aren't a nucense, they aren't a mistake, They are humans just like everyone else. It's a shame we have gotten to this point, and still nothing is being done about it...

I am a special education teacher and the truth is we are so strangled by laws, documentation, and paperwork we can never devote all the time and attention we would like. I never reveal I am a Sped teacher or tell the kids they are in a sped class, especially when I do co-teaching with a Gen Ed teacher. We work with every kid - both sped and Gen Ed so no one is singled out. Once kids learn I am a sped teacher they ostracize me, won’t let me help and say things like “I’m not a retard…” so I keep my mouth shut. In my opinion we are all “special Ed” because we each have our own unique way of learning - and my job is to find out what that is for each kid and adjust accordingly. Sped makes me feel like an outcast as well, and we are often treated like second class teachers by our colleagues- some of whom shove a kid your way and say “you deal with this…” I do love my job - and my kids, but “sped” stigmatizes us all and that in the end serves no one…

I was in a special needs program throughout all of my school career. It never helped me and I almost never learn anything out of it. It's terrifying that some kids may function normally, but are put into these classes because the schools think they have a behavior problem or a disability. What's sad is that almost no one is trying to fix this problem, and yet this can really fuck up a child's future. I wouldn't be surprised if children committed suicide because of it. Please fix your fucking school system America, our future depends on these children.

I agree. I was also in a I don’t even wanna say the word cause it makes me so angry. A helping aid classroom an I hated it so much I was to feel brain dead dumb less of a person useless in society. I felt looked down upon an this was in a catholic school which didn’t make it any better since the religious Catholics were completely harsh about it an not God loving at all to those people. I struggled with math horribly I used to struggling with comprehending what I read after the book was done. I don’t have that problem anymore though. I can remember what the books about after it’s finished now. I never had a speech impairment at all an I aced all spelling tests. My parents though I struggled to much an so did the school system so I was pulled out of my elementary school I was in tell about half of grade 4 then they moved me. I lost all contact with the friends I made at that school it was heartbreaking for me. I’m now 23 an guess what I still feel like I’m useless an worthless I hate existing an being alive I wanna die all the time it’s the worse feeling in this world. Those classrooms are dumb to even be a thing an they ruin a kids self worth an identity it makes you believe something your not. I tried to beg my mom so hard to let me out of the classroom in High school an the school board didn’t care I was made to stay stuck in there. I literally hate humanity so much. There so cruel to people with disability’s. There needs to be way more laws against this discrimination from happening because ableism is still going on an it’s not changing any time soon. It’s even hard for me to keep a job know I never tell the company an bosses about my disability because I don’t think it’s any of there business. Then they just up an get rid of me. I hate living in this world so much. 😢😔

But it was more of a daycare then a school. I was glad when I moved down south to live with my father. I finally was put in a real School and got the kind of help that I should've gotten long time ago. I did Graduated thanks to those whom help me get ahead. Something that wouldn't had happen if I had stayed up North with Mom. I hated it and even skip 60 days one year, that's how much I hated it. Why bother going if they weren't gonna teach?

At my school they have the special ed kids mixed with the normal class, it dosent work at all. First of all, all the kids with something, dont get an IEP. 3 i can name in my grade who need one and a paraprofessional BADLY! They disrupt the class (depending what they have) or make the class go slower cause when the teacher asks for them to participate like answing a question or reading A: mispronounced 10% of it and B: take forever, (im bad at english so i can speak)(btw the kids without something take advantage of the fact the Sped kids know not much because 1 does werid dancing saying their copying some famos singer when what their actually doing is something very sexual they dont understand)( and the same one that does the dance hugs all females and fist bumps all males , girls have actively told this kid to stop huging them and he doesn't) Overal i think there is a better way Mixed dosent work for both parties, Isolation does but it makes them feel bad if fhey are aware of it

I have a son and I’m fucking scared of letting my parents meet him because of the irresponsible decisions they made. BTW don’t blame your school blame your parents. Schools rarely hold the right to put you sped classes. IEPS are responsible for getting you into sped classes. Parents hold the right to accept or terminate these services at anytime.
